Repulsiva y vil. Esas palabras son insuficientemente apropiadas para referirse a esta parodia de la internacionalmente famosa melodía de José Feliciano, ‘Feliz Navidad’. Se trata de la más reciente herramienta utilizada para ridiculizar cruelmente el drama social de centenares de miles de inmigrantes indocumentados en los Estados Unidos.
El burlesque titulado Illegal Aliens In My Yard (Inmigrantes ilegales en mi jardín) fue publicado este fin de semana bajo el formato de podcast en Human Events, un sitio en la red de tendencia derechista donde se puede escuchar una versión ofensiva de la afamada canción navideña. Recitando en inglés “ilegales en mi jardín” tres veces, el coro es seguido por la frase: “Tírales unos pesos y trabajarán muy duro”.
La canción hace uso de estereotipos que incitan al odio y se refiere repetidamente a los inmigrantes indocumentados como “ilegales”, un término considerado peyorativo por los defensores de los inmigrantes. Su lírica ilustra a los inmigrantes como portadores y transmisores de enfermedades mortales como la plaga bubónica y la tuberculosis. También los describe como ebrios y criminales.
En una situación similar, para el pasado Día de las Brujas o Halloween, algunas tiendas de departamentos habían puesto a la venta un disfraz de un extraterrestre que llevaba en su mano una tarjeta de residencia y vestía un traje de prisión con la leyenda “Inmigrante Ilegal”, a lo ancho del pecho. El disfraz fue retirado de las tiendas luego que defensores de los derechos de los inmigrantes protestaran y lo calificaran de ofensivo. Pero ese objeto de burla palidece en comparación a la naturaleza insultante de la canción “Illegal Aliens in my Yard”, lo que sólo añade más fuego al de por sí polarizado debate sobre la reforma migratoria.
La parodia es una más de las muchas producciones radiales de Matt Fox y AJ Rice, son anfitriones del programa de radio “The Fox and Rice Experience”. Muchos de los comentarios en el sitio de Human Events siguieron la tendencia hacia la burla, aunque cabe señalar que otros mostraron repulsión.

Molotov has always had controversial lyrics. In this case an equivalent response to what Mr. Fox and Rice wrote to distort Feliz Navidad.
Jose Feliciano, the author of the Christmas classic, has reacted to it on a written statement and I want to share it with you and with hispanicLA readers.
Here what Feliciano had to say about it:
“I am filled with disgust that the HumanEvents.com website and Talk Radio Network producers Matt Fox and AJ Rice (‘The Fox and Rice Experience’) have utilized the joyful spirit of Feliz Navidad without authorization to spread a message of racism and fear during the Christmas season. While I am reluctant to draw any further attention to this highly offensive recording, I feel it necessary to speak-out and distance my song from such a bigoted political agenda. When I wrote and composed Feliz Navidad, I chose to sing in both English and Spanish in order to create a bridge between two wonderful cultures during the time of year in which we hope for goodwill toward all. Instead, the appalling hate speech presented in “Illegals in my Yard” is revolting to all of us that treasure the true meaning of Christmas. They should be truly ashamed”
